Blog #27: Senior Project Reflection

1. I am proud that my lifestyle has changed for the better and I am able to take this away with me, aside from academics, when I graduate. I am also proud that I am able to help other people if they have a question about getting healthier.

2a. I believe I should get an AE because I was able to get through my taking time easily and my presentation was full of very informative content that I hope most people didn't know yet. I tried to incorporate a lot of the interesting misconceptions to keep people engaged.
2b I believe I should get an AE because I went above the requirements for all of the projects we had to turn in for senior projects.

3. The deadlines worked really well for me. Every big project we were given, we were assigned mini deadlines and if I wasn't forced to do that I would have probably procrastinated.

4. The 3- Column Chart didn't work for me. I couldn't really understand how to completely do it exactly the way it was supposed to be and I didn't really use it to help me in my senior project.

5. I has helped me because my whole lifestyle has changed. I would never be able to get this experience if I went to a normal high school. This is something I could walk away with, that doesn't really involve academics.

Blog #22: Answer 3

EQ: What is the best way to achieve a nutritionally healthy lifestyle?

Answer 3: You have to find out what kind of food you, yourself, should be eating.

Evidence:
  • Everyone's body is different, (there are bodies for athletes, pregnant women, children, people with a sickness, ect.) therefore, people have to find out what is healthy for themselves
  • The best way to do that is to use the a test that includes muscle mass (BMI is useless)
  • People may have an "obese" BMI, but in reality it may just be muscle. This person may think to eat less, but instead they would have to eat more to maintain their health.

Blog #20: Room Creativity

1. I will cover the walls with pictures of unhealthy foods and overlap that with bigger pictures of bowls of salt and fat to show what they are really eating. The collage of pictures will gradually form into pictures of the bad effects on what unhealthy eating can do to you. This environment is to set the motivate the audience to want to be healthier because they can visualize the consequence right in front of them.

2. My first answer activity will be a trivia to prove how much they learned. As for my second activity, I have common foods found in households on each table and the group is supposed to take away what they think does not belong in their pile. They will write down what they could replace it with.

Blog #19: Answer 2

  • · EQ: What is the best way to achieve a nutritionally healthy lifestyle?

    · Answer 2: The best way to start a nutritionally healthy lifestyle is by getting rid of anything that is unhealthy.

    · Evidence:

o People are more likely to be tempted to eat whatever is available in their refrigerator/pantry because it is easy to get. If a person clears their households of unhealthy foods then they are only able to get unhealthy foods.

o Prepare small meals and snacks to keep in case you get hungry. This is because most people want whatever can be made quick, so instead of resorting to something like Top Ramen, they can eat something healthy that was already prepared.

o People are more likely to eat food at home instead of eating out if there is more available food at home.

Blog #13: Answer 1

1. Answer one to my essential question is to education yourself. I feel like nothing can be done to about changing a diet without having any education on what is healthy and what isn't. This is the first step to forming a healthy diet. I feel like it is essential to learn about nutrition labels and what kind of advertisements are lies.

2. Foods with false advertisements, like when it exaggerates the fact that there is fiber so they put "high in fiber!" on their box, even though it's not completely true. My book also tells me that not everything in nutrition labels are completely true.

3. Two books I find really helpful are "What are you Really Eating?" by Amanda Ursell and "Eating for Life" by Bill Phillips. I also want to read "The China Study" I read an interview with the author and found that this book would contain a lot of information I still need to know.

Blog #4: Presentation Reflection

Q: In what way did the first interview affect your presentation?  Please explain, be specific and use an example.
A: The first interview affected my presentation because she was the one who told me that food labels can lie to you. She also used protein bars at the gym as examples and told me how people use them incorrectly, therefore they were not effective. Another example of something she taught me that I applied to my presentation was how to read part of the label. She told me that processed sugar was always bad and how to find it in the nutrition label.

Q: What you say stood out about your presentation performance and why?
A: I would say the facts I gave out would be something that stood out about my presentation because everyone was shocked or grossed out once they found out what was really in the cheese-itz and coffee mate.

Q: What was the most challenging to do and why?
A: The most challenging thing to do was the time because I thought I was more prepared than I actually was even though we created a plan. Next time, I will actually perform some practice presentations before I do the real one so that I know exactly everything I have do.

Blog #3: Senior Project Presentation 1

5 Minute Rough Draft

Objective:
My objective is to inform the students about what they eat. I want to show them that what they are eating is not always good, even if the label says otherwise.

Procedure:
1. Intro:
-What do you guys no about nutrition?
-Call anyone give me examples on something healthy to eat?
    -What about something unhealthy?

2. I will be bringing in some examples to talk about. These examples will be be foods that people mistakenly perceive as being something healthy.

  • Baked Beans
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Saltines (crackers)
  • Diet Soda
  • Soda (talk about how it can work to remove the rust on your metals)
  • Dried Fruit
  • Granola Bars
  • Low-Fat Salad Dressing
  • Protein Bars
3. Explain why these foods and drinks are bad, maybe give healthier substitutions.

4. Conclusion

Check For Understanding:
Ask students what are examples of unhealthy foods again.

Resources and Materials:
Unhealthy foods to show the class as props.
